Program Objectives:
Career Development and Life Skills Program for Senior High School Students with Autism
This comprehensive year-long program is designed specifically for senior high school students with autism, focusing on essential career development and life skills to prepare them for the workforce. Through a supportive and structured environment, students will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience that will empower them to navigate the job market, perform successfully in interviews, understand workplace social dynamics, and maintain long-term employment.
Term 1: Career Exploration and Job Readiness
Students will explore various career paths, learn about different industries, and identify their own strengths and interests. This term covers resume building, job application processes, and understanding the basics of job interviews. The goal is to help students develop a clear vision of their career goals and the steps needed to achieve them.
Term 2: Interview Skills and Workplace Social Dynamics
This term focuses on developing effective communication and social skills that are crucial for job interviews and workplace interactions. Students will engage in mock interviews, learn about appropriate workplace behaviors, and practice navigating different social scenarios they may encounter in a professional setting.
Term 3: Job Maintenance and Professional Growth
The final term is dedicated to helping students understand how to maintain a job and grow within their chosen career. Topics include time management, problem-solving, handling feedback, and self-advocacy in the workplace. Students will also explore opportunities for further education and professional development.
Outcomes: By the end of the program, students will have a solid foundation in career development and the life skills necessary to pursue and sustain meaningful employment. The program aims to increase students' confidence, independence, and ability to contribute effectively in the workplace, ultimately preparing them for a successful transition from school to the professional world.
