Walkie Talkie 2.0 - Winter Program

Are your children excellent “talkers” and maybe great decoders but may still struggle with comprehending what they read? Do you find your children being able to busy themselves contentedly but are not truly relational when it comes to developing peer relationships or connections?

In the Winter program, the group will continue to focus on teaching social concepts concretely by making the “understood” explicit. The ‘Walkie Talkie’ group is designed to equip your children with tools they need to adapt to changing contexts, reciprocal play and conversational based interactions.

The delivery models include but are not limited to: role-play, scenario analysis, mini experiments, interactive presentation, team games etc. Behavior Support Strategies such as visual supports, demonstrations, and positive feedback with reinforcements will be put in place to ensure a positive learning environment and outcome.

We will have an everyday checklist for common and individualized goals after each session. There will be an individual progress report after the 8th group session for each student in the group.

Children in this program will learn how to…

-        Collaborate on play schemes

-        Adding and building upon the ideas of others

-        Flexibly incorporate others’ thoughts and imagination

-        Participating in conversation

-        Solving personal and group problems

-        Develop meaningful relationships

-        Explore issues of trust, negotiation and the ability to comprise

The program will be designed and facilitated by 2 Behaviour Consultants (BCs); a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), Roslie Hong and a Behavior Consultant on RASP (Registry of Autism Service Providers), Phyllis Yip along with one additional Behaviour Interventionist.

Meeting time: Wednesday 3:45- 5:45
